The canyon's foundation trembled under thumping steps from the obsidian-clad Black Minotaur Brigade as its thousand soldiers on mini war elephants and gigantic wild boars marched forward. To the untrained ear, it was an omen of absolute doom. But to Chieftess Agomena, it was merely a cadence desiring to be broken.
Chieftess Agomena of the Centaurian Clan stood her ground atop the battered ramparts of Darkharrow. In the heat of the midday sun, wind-blown grit scraped her face as it rose up from the sun-baked parchment.
Her unflinching, fearless stance resonated through her all-female army. They'd accompanied her in battles before. And they'd do it again. But this day, they were worn thin to the bone.
They too were fearless until they heard the thunderous sounds of war drums and witnessed the hoard of beasts glued to their wild animals rise over the hill.
"Hold the line!" Agomena’s voice gathered, then rose above the thunder, supernaturally amplified by the resonating crystals embedded in her crown and armor, slicing through the din of the battlefield. "Let them come!"
Refusing to yield, Agomena staked her trident. At that moment, her proud father looking down upon her, infused the weapon with stamina. It traveled through her then raced to her front shoulders and hooves.
Her broken army witnessed the transformation. Their front legs rose up, shields high with the rally cry. Behind, her bow women readied their arrows with precision.
The crimson banners of the Minotaur Brigade smeared the horizon. They paused. Then with a deafening roar, their towering armor-clad transports loomed like predatory beasts.
Agomena did not wait. With a burst of cerulean and amber lightning, she propelled himself from the rampart. Trident in hand, she landed directly in front of the opposing army. As her hooves hit the crusty earth, her trident ignited, erupting in a blinding halo of incandescent energy.
She waved the trident in a circular motion with the ferocious grace of a priestess. Her first sweeping strike disabled the wild boars in the front line.
Seeing their Chieftess carve a path of defiant blue and yellow fire through the second line of defense, they stormed forward. The sound of five hundred stampeded as if they were five thousand.
The Centaurian's relentless assault aided by the magical trident hurled defeat upon the massive Minotaur army.
Bow women loosed their arrows with deadly precision, raining fiery volleys onto the enemy’s flanks.
The Minotaur commander, General Ranzus, sat mounted on an armored mini elephant war-beast in the center of the conflict.
With a powerful thrust, Chieftess Agomena whirled the golden trident toward Ranzus' breast. Unafraid, Ransuz pivoted before locking eyes with Agomena through the haze of dust.
Ranzus leaned back and issued a hideous laugh. "Your trickery will not fool me, nor win this day. Surrender, and I will spare your life. For the sake of your courageous father, who I defeated in battle.
As Ranzus prepared to dismount, the trident swung around like a boomerang. Before he'd time to react, his head lay on the ground staring up at him.
Agomena strode toward Ranzus. His army, shocked at the turn of events, parted a path. Hovering over the fallen commander Minotaur, she retrieved her trident, then wiped the blood from its spikes.
She surveyed the opposing, bewildered Minotaur army as vultures circled overhead waiting for their dinner.
"The siege ends this day," Chieftess Agomena declared, her voice echoing deep like her father's across the crimson-stained canyon. *"Calm and dismount your beasts. Then lay down your weapons, and you will live to see your families come sunrise. Leave our lands. They do not belong to you. We will never surrender. And if you return, prepare to make valley your final resting place."
Witnessing their invincible commander's death and the tiny group of Centaurs who undoubtedly held the power of the greatest chief of their era, surrendered, dropping their shields and weapons to the cracked ground.
Through sheer confidence and fearless fortitude, Chieftess Agomena had turned the tide of the battle, securing victory for the Centaurian Clan.
