"Crafting Character: Nurturing Skills and Ethics in the Next Generation"

Source

There are ethics and cultural teachings given to us while growing up to be used in our day-to-day activities that stick with us until adulthood and pass these teachings to the younger generations. There are different skills, but old and new ones available for the younger generation to participate in that will shape their future when they become fully grown adults. There is a saying here in my country that a child who refuses to learn and make corrections will grow up wayward, and this is pure fact because the evidence is out on the streets.

Growing up as a child, the necessary skill I was taught in both school and home was keeping my surroundings clean no matter where I was in the world. During my young days in boarding school, my hostel master often engaged all the boys in cutting down weeds around the school hostel. It was seen as punishment among the boys and was also used as a disciplinary method by the hostel masters and senior prefects during that time.

It was never taught in my home how to cut down weeds because there was never a reason to teach it since my compound was tiled, which gave no room for weeds to grow. It was strange and I thought this was a cruel act by the hostel master this task was performed manually with a cutlass or hoe, and there was no lawn mower machine given to the students to use for the task, we simply had to weld the cutlass, bend down and start cutting off the weeds. I remembered getting blisters on my hands on that very day and thought I would not have to do that task again, but I was wrong.

It kept being a routine, and before I knew it, I became familiar with the process and saw it more as merely a small task. It made me stronger, and I could do things I thought utterly would be impossible for me to do. I have received a lot of compliments from people about my strengths. I may not look buffed up, but I can show my strength when needed. Young children must learn a skill growing up as times are changing now. It's rare to see young children who are ready to put in the work and learn something that will be valuable for them in the long run.

There are adults out there who are incorporating the skills they learnt when they were a child and turning them into a business, some have gone as far as remodelling the skill to suit the area we are currently in, which is an incredible display of determination and talent. It is important to take up advice given by people with more experience because their wisdom will always come in handy when it's needed, and this is something many young people fail to understand.

There are a lot of successful individuals out there who would say they got where they are in life because of the advice and teachings they got from their teachers, parents, and respected figures in the community. In conclusion, it is important to build the new generation by incorporating the need to learn a skill and giving them the right guidance to be a better individual in life. So, guys, that will be all for now. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day.
