This is the #48th issue of the "Week through Adrian's Lenses" weekly Hive and crypto news roundup.

Let's see what we have for this week.

Week on Hive

19 of 38 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

Hive Core Devs Monthly Meeting

A lot has been discussed at this meeting. I'll attempt to summarize what holds some interest to non-technical users in bullet-point style:

  • @howo fixed a bug with beneficiary payments not being included in the post payout amount if one of the beneficiary usernames was wrong (a potential way to hide beneficiary rewards of a post in the front ends before it was fixed)
  • he also worked on the beneficiary feature for communities and a way to add the reason for muting an account
  • @blocktrades team worked on a bunch of things (you can always check the entire recording or transcript linked above):
  • optimizations, bug fixes, and tests for HiveD, HAF, etc.
  • working on an option to allow full-power votes as mana is depleting; currently, both voting mana and voting power used for a full vote diminish the lower the voting mana gets; they will likely allow both options, and front ends will choose what to use (preferably, I'd say, as a setting for the user)
  • started to work on being able to do block log pruning, which will allow various lightweight nodes to exist in the future; "pruning" may be a sensitive topic in the future, as it will be important to see what nodes will remain holding what information
  • small steps are being taken to make RC consensus (I'm not exactly sure what will be the impact, other than changes to them being decided by consensus witnesses) - the decision to make RC consensus or not will be taken, as expected, by the consensus witnesses, when the time comes
  • work on BeeKeeper + Clive (together, a more retro and more secure option to Hive Keychain; console-based instead of a browser plugin); if you're focused on security, read this. If you're focused on user experience, use Hive Keychain.
  • continued work on HAF block explorer (it will have the ability to search blocks, comments, or posts, or a separate application will be created to do that)
  • @gtg said he is running a consensus witness with 7W of power and later gave details

VSC Bitcoin Wrapping on Hive - Demo Phase

Last week excitement grew as the demo version of VSC's Bitcoin wrapping on Hive has been publicly released and presented. I don't think I've been able to register on the website for this demo phase a few days after the presentation, but looking forward to improvements as time passes. It's a great start!

SPK TestNet: Incentivized IPFS storage

Proof of Access was tested for a while using Hive as rewards. But the time has come to move to the next phase, which is the SPK testnet, where incentivization is tied to the SPK economy, mainly the SPK token.

If you were interested in the topic when there were Hive rewards, or if you just found out and it sounds attractive to you that you can be rewarded by allowing your free disk space to be used to store videos, check out these resources:

Splinterlands

Splinterlands launched the Rebellion edition as scheduled, on Tuesday, to the excitement of many who were expecting it.

For land fans, 2 parts of the Land 2.0 whitepaper draft have been published already:

Both subjects were discussed in the town hall meeting.

End of Year LPUD

Two LPUDs this month from INLEO! The regular one with two options (50 or 150) minimum LEO staked on the 15th, and the End of Year edition with two options as well:

  • if you have more than 1,500 LP, stake at least 15% more*
  • if you have less than 1,500 LP, reach 1,500 LP (or more) on LPUD

*) For example, if you have 10k LeoPower, you must power up 1500 $LEO.

All the Lions who do this will receive a 5k Leo Power delegation for a month.

Feedback Requested for Beem

Beem is/was a popular library for Hive used by Python programmers. The original developer is MIA, but @emrebeyler offered to pick it up and revitalize it if there are requests. And he wants to know what the main problems are with it from its users.

WOO Made Two Wrestling Title Belts...

... for WOO and HIVE, and they will be presented at WrestleCon 2024 and San Diego Comic-Con. Looks like they'll have lots of exposure...

Life of Hive

"Walk Bridges - Build Bridges" Buzz Party

This looks like a well-organized event for Hivers. It will take place between 20-21 April 2024, in Hamburg, Germany. There is an app already created for it, which will hold all the details. The announcement is here.

DBuzz Team Seems Busy...

They are certainly involved in a lot of things. You can see some of them here. About Nathan Senn, what can we say, he is everywhere: events, DBuzz and SPK development! And yet, the day has only 1440 minutes for him too. Impressive!

There were also some developments to the DBuzz interface, but nothing I could link to.

The Hive Orientation and OCD Onboarding Programs Continue with Another Episode...

If you are curious, here are the details. The main speaker at many of these programs, @indayclara, often shares introduction posts of people who attend such programs, and sometimes follow-up posts too. These types of programs seem to produce some palpable results in the Philipines. They don't onboard droves of people, but those who come in this way seem well-oriented.

Work on Hive Borehole #14 under Way

Work on the last Hive borehole in Ghana in 2023 is underway. You can see progress updates here and here.

Week in the Crypto World

Jack Dorsey Believes He Found the Solution to Key Recovery for Self-Custody Bitcoin

A multisig wallet, where the customer holds two keys (smartphone and hardware wallet) and he holds one (Bitkey service). If the customer loses either one, he can recover funds via the other two keys, one held by him and the other held by Bitkey. Details here.

Does it have loopholes that other hardware wallets don't? I'm not knowledgeable enough in this area to answer that. I instinctively don't trust Dorsey much, though.

Will We Have Another NFT Mania?

Last cycle, the NFT mania had Ethereum at the forefront. Is that over, or just moved to Bitcoin? An Ordinal inscription was purchased for $450k (or, more accurately, over 10 Bitcoin).
