What makes my hometown unique - SpaceCoast FL !

It’s easy to understand why they call this area the “SpaceCoast”. Cape Canveral, Florida is known throughout the world for the United States space program. We all know about the early launches of the Apollo Space flights, followed by the Space Shuttle flights and now the infamous Space X flights from Elon Musk and company.

But the area is also unique for many other reasons. When you think of this area, you think of the warm weather, beaches, wildlife and the port where major Cruise lines launch weekly. All in this tiny area isolated from big city life.

If you want more, go 45 minutes and you are sitting in Disney World, Epcot, and many more attractions in Orlando.

The area has grown from the Apollo flights but it really is what put the area on the map. Everywhere you go, you are reminded of the past and future because you can hear and feel the “rumble” of the flight going up in the sky.

Beaches are amazing simply because they can be enjoyed without all the crowded tourism most of the time. Sun rises are simply breath taking and the birds are always there to pose for you.

If you are a surfer, Cocoa Beach is right here. The waves are not like Hawaii, but they can quite interesting when you have weather coming through.

If you are a photographer, you love the area for the natural wildlife abundance everywhere you go. You have the tall egret birds and alligators all over and it’s normal to see the birds of prey hunt each morning for their food.

Don’t forget the sea life here. You have wild dolphins swimming and playing in the water. If you are lucky you can even see a shark or two at the beach.

Many people love cruise life and many of the ships go out of the port for 3-5 day trips to the Bahamas or Mexico. It’s not like Miami but that is what makes it special.

You appreciate everything much more when you don’t have it. For now, we are locked away like everyone else. No trips to the beach, no cruise boats coming in/out. In fact, this makes you wonder if the cruise business will ever come back to this area. Everyone has seen the rush to the beaches when the “ban” is lifted. It’s easy to understand for many want to feel the sun and water again.

Good thing the birds and wildlife don’t care about social distancing. They are there for photos and go about their days as if nothing ever happened. In the area, you have the impact of the business downturn. The mall and major stores are empty and some will never come back. The small businesses, that people have worked years to build have been financially challenged and I wonder if many will be gone as well.

The Space Coast will go back to what it was before the growth of the ports and space ships. It will go back to a natural setting for a simple life.
