Blauäugiger Waldportier ■ The dryad
Minois dryas (Scopoli, 1763)
The dryad is a butterfly of the family (Nymphalidae) and subfamily of (Satyrinae). The butterfly can be found in different habitats. It flies on dry meadows as well as in wetlands. In Germany it has become very rare and can only be found at a few locations. It is still most frequently found in the foothills of the Alps and in eastern Germany. A small population has also existed in Lower Franconia for some years. However, it is highly likely that this was established and is not of natural origin. This large butterfly flies in one generation from July to the end of August. The female sheds its eggs in flight over the vegetation. The caterpillar feeds on sweet grasses and hibernates. The pupation takes place on the ground.
