What are Flashbacks?

Hey everyone, I hope you had a start to the week which was accompanied by interesting experiences! In this article I would like to go into a psychological topic and hope you are able to expand your knowledge a bit.

It often happens that people are spontaneously confronted with memories from the past and these moments are also called flashbacks and during these moments, those affected also have the feeling that things that have already been experienced are repeated. These moments occur in a sudden moment and in a flash and are usually connected with stimuli that have taken place at that time like sensory impressions or certain emotions and during the experience of a flashback, these are stirred up again. Flashbacks can be viewed both positively or negatively and negative flashbacks are often associated with feelings such as fear, which can also lead to strong side effects and depending on the intensity, strong side effects such as panic, heart attacks and more can arise, which can often last for minutes and precisely because it occurs in moments when people cannot prepare, it is particularly dangerous and can lead to a loss of reality. Flashbacks are also often associated with things that are stored deep in the subconscious and often it is enough that a certain smell, sound or other sensory perception is perceptible so that these moments are evoked again and to recognise these subliminal things is not easy and it requires access to the subconscious to be able to deal with these deep-seated sensory impressions. So it doesn't have to be exactly the same memories that are stirred up again, it can also happen in a completely different context that these flashbacks are triggered by a certain stimulus and if people are aware of these moments, they can simply deal with them and even benefit from flashbacks. There are different types of flashbacks and some can be traced back to childhood while others have arisen in connection with certain physical or mental illnesses and often traumatic events from the past are also a trigger.
