5,250%

Great news! In 1899, Canada reduced its postal rate from 3 cents to 2 cents. Stop the press. Oh how times have changed. Nowadays standard postage is $1.07. That’s a 5,250% increase over the course of 125 years. Unbelievable isn’t it. (But of course we all know that the real killer here is inflation)These 3 stamps were issued in 1908 to commemorate the founding or settlement of Quebec City back in 1608, by Samuel De Champlain the explorer. I certainly would not have known that without doing some quick research! It is called the “Quebec Tercentenary issue”. The folks in the 2 cent stamp are King Edward VII and Queens Alexandra. Jacques Cartier and Samuel Champlain are depicted in the 1 cent, and the half cent we have the Prince and Princess of Wales. Which is your favourite?
