Let’s step back a little and explain for the beginners what Hive is and where it got it’s start.
According to #LEOGLOSSARY, The Hive blockchain went live in March 2020. It was a fork off of the Steem blockchain after issues that are not clearly defined but essentially it was a Split from the previous blockchain after a money attack by Justin Sun. The Hive Blockchain was developed to be decentralized and protected from possible takeover with stop gaps in place to avoid a run on the native token.
A Hive witness is someone who runs a node that contains ALL of Hive. There are multiple nodes that keep all of the information secure through redundancy.
As a Hive Power holder, you have 30 votes you can use to vote for the witnesses that you feel are performing positive change to the Hive Blockchain.
The TOP 20 witness nodes perform the consensus of the Blockchain by voting on changes to the platform. This is why it is important to use your votes so you can support the witnesses that you know are making a positive impact on Hive.
You have 30 votes to use, the value of your vote is directly related to your Hive Power.
Having Hive powered up increases your voting power as well as earns you interest and increases your curation value.
