Sitting in the audience and posing for a selfie, Academy Award Nominee and odds-on favorite to win the Best Actor award for his performance in Darkest Hour, veteran British actor Gary Oldman and his wife Gisele Schmidt looked like any other couple.

Minutes later, the audience would be treated to a montage of film clips that barely scratched the surface of this chameleon's work, playing characters from Sid Vicious, to a white pimp who thinks he's black, Dracula, Commisioner Gordon, Sirius Black, and now Winston Churchill, among numerous other memorable characters. Oldman joined moderator and iconic film critic Leonard Maltin on stage to be presented with the 2018 Maltin Modern Master Award, the highest honor presented at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
