Polyglots hold the key to Steemit community building

I wanted to write some posts under the #polyglot tag for some time, but since I can't claim to be a polyglot (I am bilingual at best) it took a little bit of naive arrogance to try and coax the many polyglots on steemit to engage in more conversation with each other and their respective communities.

I believe that polyglots have an important role in helping to connect the different communities on Steemit together through not only their linguistic skills, but also their ability to bridge gaps in cultural understanding for such a diversity platform. Right now it is predominantly an English-based platform, but we already know that there are very strong communities in non-English speaking countries posting a vast amount of content in various languages.

I hope to see polyglots take up the role of community leaders and builders by doing a few things that will help all steemians:

  • work with content producers to create multilingual versions of text, audio and video so that great content can be enjoyed without language as a barrier
  • build connection between community groups that share common interests and goals but not a common language
  • highlight the differences in communication and cultural requirements so that we are more aware of the similarities and differences between countries and regions of different background and nationalities.

If you are a polyglot and love to post in more than one language, it would be great to see the #polyglot tag used more often so we can enjoy the rich diversity in content and language here on Steemit.

P.S. If there's anyone out there that have been to a multilingual Steemian meetup please let me know. I'd love to find out more about it :)
