Climate change conference COP23 in my town

The United Nations climate change conference COP23 in Bonn came to an end yesterday. It was only 1 kilometer far away from my home in Bonn, so I can give you a report about some nice details.

All the shuttle busses and cars in the COP23-area were electric vehicles.

They bought lots of bicycles to rent for the people from all over the world, who came to the conference.

The food on the conference was fresh and organic. Most of the meals were without meat and the ingredients from local production.

I’ve been on two demonstrations on the last two weekends against climate change and there have been thousands of people from all over the world, singing and fighting together against coal and for renewable energy!

These are nice details, but the most important things are the results of the conference. The politicians worked on a “rule book”, which should represent the laws and regulations for the agreement of Paris 2015. The result is a blueprint, and next year in Poland on the COP24 they want to decide about it.

The political high point was the alliance against coal. 19 countries are in the alliance, for example Canada, Great Britain and France. But Germany is missing in this alliance, because our parties are arguing at the moment about the formation of government. I’m hoping that our green party can reach the aim, that Germany also determines the end of coal and comes to the alliance against coal.

But what can you do?

You can participate on online petitions or go to demonstrations in your country. You can vote green parties. And of course you can order 100% renewable energy for your own flat.

There is still a chance, but we have to act!
