Cannabis has been federally prohibited since the 1937 Marijuana Taxation Act. This led to its classification as a DEA Category 1 drug, which bas been deemed to have no beneficial application or usage. It is categorized along with heroin and methamphetamine.

As individual states have worked to legalize cannabis in various fashions, it looks like federal prohibition will end within the decade organically.

Andrew Yang seeks to legalize cannabis fully, forgive the criminal records of federal cannabis crime and release those in jail with cannabis records. This will help put those in jail back to work, generate tax revenue and help create work in the growing cannabis industry.

Andrew Yang is an entrepreneur, and a realist. He does not personally use cannabis, but supports those who do.
