Darkness falls.
It falls
On the wise and oblivious
Earth weeps again
As men weep
Darkness falls
A heavy cloud hand,
Thick, dank, gripping tight,
A throat-clawing guillotine
Darkness falls
Upon all that sit and wait
Begging help from far away
Awaiting renewal from without
Darkness falls
Upon the strong and disabled
Creaky bones and genteel souls
Darkness falls on us all.
The guilty and innocent,
Slowly, surely encroaching
Eating the land
Swallowing seas
Devouring forests
Laying bare all within its path
That’s the darkness that falls
Speaks intelligent, human language
Lacks human love milk
That’s the darkness.
Ha! My people
Darkness falls upon us all
At the citadel, at the dungeons
It’s falling fast, it’s here
It falls on the wise and oblivious.
Darkness falls.
