Thermals into the chill
Wings full sail.
Twisting, turning
Dodging hail.
Lone bird
On violent winds.
Searching for horizon
Vision dimmed.
Trailing feathers
From each impact
Of frozen ice
Upon its back.
Desperate cries
As rocks loom near.
Tumbling from thermals
Flailing in fear.
Dropping, dipping
A rolling dodge
A sudden smack
Unable to dislodge...
Caught in stones
As weather rages
Is more humane
Than life in cages.
Freedom so short lived.
The call of Hyperion
Hitching whispers
In the dark of man.
Will the sun rise again?
Uncertain and in shadow.
Watching mankind rage war.
It transcends fear
Pure astonishment,
Awestruck and horrifying.
Bright flashes
Promise of accession.
Cold sweat on the brow
Of every mother.
The tinkle of breaking glass
As angels call them home.
