Mutated Garden
to Nacht Land
but renewal is denied
growth shunted
roots severed
nurse logs sanitized
mulched and buried
only the cultivated
are allowed to see the sun
genetically modified
grown in rigid rows
pruned so as not
to offend the eye
the wild things
the natural and strong
sacrificed to order
the forest ploughed and fenced
for a mutated garden

It is a wise ruler
Who takes from the farmer
To conserve from each harvest
To plant the fields anew
It is a wise ruler
Who takes from the farmer
For the time when the fields must rest
To remain fertile every field must rest
Take too much
Conserve too much
The farmers can do naught but rest
A wise ruler conserves no more than needed
Feeds the will of her farmers
