Slavery: the freedom you think you know. A poem

Many celebrate civilization
as though slavery has ceased

Thousands proclaim freedom
but never get to live full and free.

Unchained, yet chained psychologically
Slavery is when one smiles in the crowd
but deep down the soul, death hovers;

Slavery is when couples hold hands in public
but disagree in the closet.

Slavery is when you cannot get sleep
because for the first time you have a huge amount of money at home.

Slavery is when you love them
but oppose them to get their attention.

Slavery is when you hate them,
yet flatter for the attention.

Slavery is assuming sexy
when you're not comfortable in that dress

Slavery is working for a huge pay
when you do not enjoy the work

Slavery is drinking to forget the past
when you will wake up next day to face it

Slavery is when you give out tons of love,
and get hate and denial in return.

Slavery is the freedom you think you know!

This poem is written by XYZ, a 19 year old friend!
