Be Good in the Blowing Night. A Children's Poem

Oil painting by Albert Anker (1875) - Image in the Public Domain (Wikimedia Commons

                                                In the blowing night
                                                all the spirits visit.
                                                Some with joy of life,
                                                some with old demands.

                                                And the sleeping child
                                                dreams dreams of delight
                                                only when he’s good,
                                                and his thoughts are nice.

                                                No need to be scared;
                                                sins come more than twice,
                                                all to make us wise.
                                                This is how we learn.

                                                All you kids, be good.
                                                Listen to your minds.
                                                Turn on your white light
                                                in the blowing night.
