Such a Lovely Ruin

When I hold you
In my arms
And feel your sun-warm skin,

Inhale the scent
Of sun tan lotion,
I’m back in another season

Embracing July.

We walked upstream
In a river of colored pebbles
Each footfall
A rainbow ripple
And my heart
Your steppingstone;

And so it is
I’m never alone,

Not with all those shiny moments
Shattered yet saved
In the mosaic of memory

And you
A golden reverie
Now that summer’s done…

But such a lovely ruin!
