Poem - Rucksack

When I fly
To the edge of the world
I like to travel light
My old rucksack
I shall bring
My loyal companion
My partner in crime

T’is the ring on my shoulder
Its stain and taint
Are the memories that matter
My old rucksack
You gave me
My lover
My hater

When you left it with me
You promised to return
But you never did
My old rucksack
You left to me
My own cross to bear
My burden and my gift

Damaged and old it may be
For I shall never
Travel without thee
My old rucksack
I must bring
My memories aplenty
My footsteps steady

Trials and tribulations
We have endured
And will endure ‘til damnation
My old rucksack
Will hold for me
My longing and passion
My longing for thee
