Why I'm Not A Buddhist: My First Ever Poem

Sticking to the theme of all my very firsts in writing, I went digging through my writing and found my first ever poem. This poem was posted a while back but I'm not sure anyone saw it, so I thought I'd try again. I hope you enjoy this poem, it was the catalyst to the discovery of my first hidden talent. It really means a lot to me and I hope you can forgive my 12 year old self for his mediocre beginnings in poetry. This poem is over 4 years old.

Why I'm Not A Buddhist

I'm a pessimist -
There's no doubt about it
I've seen too many things
I've walked among the quiet gravestones
And wondered what it means

But a Buddhist is an optimist
They see the good in all
They can sit in a room for hours
And not feel weak or small

I wish I was an optimist
I really, really do
I want live and feel peaceful
Like all the Buddhists do

But you cannot be something
That you weren't born to be
I have to deal with what I've got
I have to deal with me

And maybe then I'll be a Buddhist
Maybe then I’ll feel free
but for now I'll stay a pessimist
Cause that's all I choose to see

Yes I will stay a pessimist
That truly is the key
