Appointed and Annointed

We come to life, upon this globe,
And wonder whence we are,
Why we are here, where we will go,
Whatever we should do.

With ought but thought we have devised,
Such wonders as space flight,
Fighter jets and Internet and
Marvels out of sight.

And yet deny the One on high,
Who's thoughts and words we are,
Just as we make each child we do,
He curates from afar.

We are His kin, His own offspring,
His gods in embryo,
And He just wants for us to learn,
Into His ways to grow.

If we will learn to do His will,
And serve each other's needs,
We will become as One He loved,
And gave to make us His.

For as we learn we build a debt,
Which never can be paid,
Without the loving sacrifice,
Of He who's life He gave.

And so my friend, to you I say,
Do you accept this gift?
Or do you think we all just oozed,
From some primordial soup?

I postulate that even if,
No future is in store,
A better life we all will have,
If hope is at our door.

If in our finite wisdom,
We choose to look astray,
And forfeit our inheritance,
For so simple is the way.

How sad a story this will be,
For those who were appointed,
Who'll peer across that giant gulf,
At those who are anointed.
