It Was, Then (An Original Poem)

There you stand, naked,
stripped of all but
the forgiveness
in your eyes
and a prayer
on your lips,
giving thanks for
the tremendous storm
that stranded you here.

At first you trembled,
then you cursed,
wishing for a frictionless life...
but then it happened,
in the midst of the
worst of your struggles
you felt it, a split second
of immortality.

It was then
you understood
the power you held
inside of you,
it was then
your eyes opened,
it was then
that you vowed
to never be lied to
or lulled to sleep again,
It was, then.
