What a Nurse Can Be... / Poem #1

What A Nurse Can Be

I am a nurse, that’s what I am.
When people ask me what I do,
There’s so much that I can be
So here’s a list from me to you.

A teacher who educates,
Gives you perception and awareness
On how to take care of your body
When you tend to neglect yourself.

An engineer who builds,
Makes sure nothing is amiss
Ensures your surrounding is safe
From any debris that may cause injury.

A mathematician who calculates,
So that you get the right amount of medicine.
Because every digit makes a difference
On the thin line between life and death.

An advocate who supports,
Backs you up when confidence is elusive.
Speaks for you when your voice is unheard
And words get caught in your lips.

A counselor who guides,
Helps you make your own decisions.
Gives you choices and options
And lets you find answers to your questions.

A repairman who fixes,
Makes broken things work.
So you can be comfortable
And heal with ease.

A friend who cares,
Never judging whether you’re ugly or not.
Will always try to help you in any way,
Even if at times you yourself don’t know how.

A family that loves,
When you have no one at your side.
Will make you realize how good it feels
To be healthy and alive.

But after all these things the nurse has done,
Sometimes gratitude becomes none.
And when the time comes when we need one,
Who would nurse the nurse, anyone?
