The key of making pixel art is making every pixel count. That is luckily a little bit easier when the subject has some characteristics that are either unique, or translate very well to pixels.
For instance, glasses and a beard are very grateful trades to have in a subject, because they make it so much easier for the pixels to look like the person being pixelfied. But just any glasses and beard won't cut it either. The trick is to try to accuratly depict the model/shape of the glasses with the few pixels at ones disposal. The same with the beard. Every beard grows differently, so getting the shape & size right is paramount.
In this case I also added part of my subjects trademark post signature with all the colors to his shirt. (well, partly anyways)
