SmartStudy Physics Quest 004 Solution and Payout

Can't believe it's been 21 days since I last posted a question in the quest. This post is long over due.

The question was
A glass marble falls from a height of 10 m to the ground. There is negligible air resistance, which of the following remains constant during the fall?

A) Acceleration
B) Kinetic energy
C) Speed
D) Velocity

The correct answer to the question is indeed Acceleration. All other values increase constantly. Speed and velocity have the same value (velocity is the vector quantity of speed). As it falls, the speed increases, until it gets to a maximum. Since the kinetic energy depends on the velocity, the kinetic energy is also increasing. That leaves acceleration. This is the rate at with the velocity changes with time and is constant. It depends on the pull of the earth's gravitation.

Thanks to all who participated. The first three persons all had the correct answer and so will receive an equal portion of the SBD earnings on Quest 004
