Stained Glass Windows - Strawberry Hill House, UK

Hello and welcome to my little corner of SteemIt.

Today I’m presenting three pictures of stained glass which can be found at the historical Strawberry Hill House in London.

The house itself dates back to sometime in 1700. Horace Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford and English and Art historian bought a collection of cottages in 1747 and transformed them and their grounds into the ‘little gothic castle’ it is today.

During his time here he sent some of his workers to France to buy up some stained glass which the French for some reason had found passé, and so they loaded up literally a boat load of stained glass and brought it back to London to put in Strawberry Hill House, so it is fair to say that these pieces are at least 300 years old, if not older.

This first piece is my favourite - it depicts the elephants from Hannibal’s army, along with some other notable names such as Hercules and Cato.

The second and third pieces are of the same window and have very little that I can add to them, but just look at that blue glass and how vibrant parts of this are.

A close up of the above. I am amazed at the detail in this piece and how clear it still is.

I hope you liked these pictures - they were all taken on an iPhone 8+ with no post editing.

Cheers for now!
