A SUNDAY WALK WITH LILY

Having a piece of luck is a matter of being in one place at the right time. We were walking little Lily, our chihuahua princess, when along the way huge tree trunks were being cut, to give way to a new street for the city busses going back to their main parking station. The trees they were cutting must have been 50 years old or more. We walked carefully, holding Lily in my arms as the three men stopped the crane to give us the way.

MY CUTTING BOARD WAS BORN

When we came back to the same path, I had an idea and told hubby that I will be asking the guys if I could have one piece to make as cutting board. To my astonishment, the guy who was holding the electric saw promptly went to the tree trunk and cut one of the huge branches in a slanting movement. The reason was, he could cut and make a huge board for me.... and so, my cutting board was born!

THE PERFECT PROP

The board was really heavy since it was not dry yet. I let it dry for a while in the cellar. Instead of sanding the rough surface, I just left it in original form. I really didn´t want to use it as cutting board because its size is not practical to use in my small kitchen. My real motivation was to use it as prop for my food photography. It looks rustic and I think it enhanced this scene and gave it a still life effect.
