Drought and Neglect: photo series

I recently had a project to create a photo diary. I did not simply want to capture my life in some frivolous way so opted to dig deep and capture something I care about. The concept came from the current drought we are experiencing in the Western Cape in South Africa and the effect this has had on the landscape and animals. I found myself working with my vet to help a large group of neglected horses that had come into the Cape of Goodhope SPCA at the same time as the mountains around my area being on fire with little water to put them out.

It is worrying that our lack of rain over the last 2 years means that the veld is not recovering and growing and the farmers are not able to plant hay this season. I fear this is only the start of what is going to come as more people become unable to look after their animals with the price hikes to animal feeds.
