Follow The Signs - For Elk

Elk leave behind a lot of evidence of their passing for those who look.

Rubs on branches and brush are some of the signs that I love to find, because it usually indicates that something with large antlers upon it's head lives somewhere close at hand.

Here is a photo of a rub that I recently found in the high desert country of Northwestern Colorado. It tells me that a bull elk of considerable size once stood here - probably in August of last year.

As a hunter it gives me hope - hope that I may find him one day soon in ready range of my recurve bow.

And who knows, maybe it will be this year...
