Super Blue Blood Moon

DSC00108.jpg

I would like to share this picture taken today by a friend in Tromsø, Northern Norway. The picture shows a "Super Blue Blood Moon." A "Super Moon" occurs when the moon is closest to Earth coincides with a full moon. A "Blue Moon" is the second full moon in one calendar-month. It happened last 2 1/2 years ago.

Because of the way light passes through the Earth's atmosphere during an eclipse, red light from the Sun is reflected onto it. Therefore it is called for "Blood Moon".

It's the sixth time in 100 years this happens, so this might be the last chance you had to see the phenomenon.
