The temperature is colder in MN, but we have central heating, fireplaces, and winter clothes.
Spain does have its share of financial trouble, but the cost of living is a more less than here and healthcare is covered through taxes. The public transportation is also very usable, so having a car is pretty optional.
Getting a work visa involves having a company formally offer you work, but it has to be something that a local can't do. That makes things very difficult, especially since citizens of any EU country don't need a visa.
