The Forth not fourth Road Bridge

This is the forth road bridge in Edinburgh. Just to the right is another bridge called the 'forth rail bridge'. Creative huh? There's another bridge to the left that has just been built. There was an online campaign to name the bridge. This was before boaty mcboatface happened so no one suggested bridgy mcbridgeface.. no no, the winning suggestion was "The Second Forth road bridge" .. which does sound insane when you say it out loud.. I liked it .. and was rather well aligned with the lack of imagination for the other two bridges... but they called it 'the Forth Crossing' instead. Whatever.

To be clear, I am not misspelling 'fourth'. The water that passes under these bridges is called 'The Firth of Forth'. It is an estuary (firth) of several scottish rivers including the river Forth. Hence the 'forth bridges'.

Going back to this bridge, there's not much special about it other than its often closed due to high winds or because some idiot in a high-sided vehicle went onto the bridge when not permitted and got their car blown over on its side, gridlocking the whole bridge for hours.

That being said, it is a fun bridge to photograph.. you have to sneak past the control centre that sits on top of a hill like some German bunker on the Normandy shores, dive into some bushes and climb down the hill in front of the control centre.

You are then in a field with this as your view and you snap away all the while wondering if the guys in the control centre can see you or not.. Your imagination goes into paranoid overdrive thinking some gestapo-esque employees are gonna show up at any second to drag you away and confiscate your camera equipment.. in reality they are probably sat in the booth watching you on cctv.. rolling their eyes and sipping their cups of tea and arguing over who should go out there to shoo you away.. and since the weather is cold they probably argue about it until you've left .. and the problem has solved itself. Everybody wins.
