Rural life by the river a look at the wisdom of the ancestors.

When a person wants to engage in agriculture and buy a house in the countryside for gardening horticulture livestock farming and herding he often has to make a choice between a plot of land on a hill or in a lowland near the river.

It is only after some time that one can understand whether this choice was correct.

People living on top of a hill often look with some envy at those who live in the floodplain of the river because there are excellent pastures there and the opportunity to keep ducks and geese in close proximity to the water.

I thought about such a house standing on a hill and looking at the old house right in the center of this photo it is located several kilometers from this place.

If you do not know the history of this place it is very easy to make a fatal mistake.

Thanks to the powerful zoom of my camera I zoomed in on that house and seeing it I realized that water had worked there.

Yes, some time ago a big flood came the river overflowed its banks and flooded the entire valley including this farmstead with all its contents.

You can live happily in the river valley for several years but then you can lose everything you have acquired.

To live in the river floodplain you don’t need a house but at least a Noah’s Ark.

Therefore even sacrificing some ease in keeping domestic birds and sacrificing the fertility of the soil which is very fertile in the river floodplain I prefer life on top of a hill just as our ancestors used to build their castles and fortresses on a hill.
