When dropping off my kids to school we regularly run into lots of the local wildlife - I finally remembered to get some photos for Steemit :)
Bearded Dragons gone wild:
These guys have been scavenging food dropped by a few dozen special needs kids in this section of the school.
Noisy Miner's everywhere :
Since it was such a nice clear day (and I'm not getting anywhere near as much sunlight and exercise as I should be) and I decided to go for a bushwalk.
We've been regularly passing something called "Pooh Corner", so we went for a closer inspection :
An ex-military training ground turned into a nature reserve full of unexploded ammunition right next door to a prison - what could possibly go wrong ?
This nature reserve has had a fire through it in recent years from the look of these :
This was a little wierd, this is a seperate tree that's been merged into the older tree with a termite mound :
Some interesting regrowth on this stump :
We kept our eyes peeled, but didn't manage to spot any Koala's anywhere. We did manage to spot some families of Kangaroo's around the place though.
This first distance shot actually has 5 eastern grey kangaroos in it, but most are hidden in the long grass
This little guy spotted us, then came straight at us quite aggressively. He was only young and it seemed like he underestimated how big we were since we were quiet and slow while taking photos.
Once he charged us all we had to do was stand up and speak for him to freak out and run off..
Go on, stick your finger in - I hear there's treasure inside!
There are a lot of trees in here with this sort of fresh shear damage, I have no idea what caused it
An ancient barrel rusting away in the middle of nowhere
Loads of gnarly looking trees around , I thought these two contrasted nicely
Most of this reserve was super dry, dead and looking ready for another bushfire . It was a relief to stumble across a small creek and see the greenery return.
The riverbank had heaps of fungi growth but none of the fun fungi unfortunately ;)
At the last part of the track, about a hundred meters off the path there are some ruins of something. It's not marked on any maps I've seen - I'm wondering if this is an old decommissioned missile silo. Would love to hear anyones theory about this .
This little shed has been filled in with concrete it looks like it was connected to the main "silo" part underground.
This part is way bigger then it looks, I merged two photos to make this dodgy widescreen shot
And finally, I'll leave you with one of the coolest lens flares I've ever captured :
