The Grandest Canyon

The Grand Canyon is one of the most amazing, beautiful places you will ever see on this planet earth. When looking down from either rim, the majestic Colorado River lies at the bottom and in most places is hidden from view.

The North Rim is almost 6000 feet above the river. This incredible canyon depth has revealed probably the most comprehensive cross section of rock formation anywhere in the world. Showing more than 40 major sedimentary rock layers with a formation timetable ranging from 200 million to 2 billion years in age. Most geologist agree that the canyon is about 6.5 million years old. But a recent study from 2012 suggests that western Grand Canyon may be as old as 70 million years.

This wonderful image was captured from the north rim and shows a native juniper tree in front of an expansive colorful canyon with marvelous vistas beyond. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is located in Arizona USA.
