Unusual bright beach in the Maldives
This is something incredible, one of the many things that happen on our planet!
With the arrival of the night, the beaches of some islands of the archipelago of the Maldives explode with millions of luminous points of neon, as if the starry sky fell on the coast of the Indian Ocean. The surrealist image does not arise with the help of magic, but as a result of the vital activity of microscopic organisms called bioluminescent phytoplankton.
The most common blue glow in the Maldives is observed approximately from July to February, especially during the new moon, when the darkness of the sky helps the microorganisms to shine as intensely as possible.
The amazing effect of bioluminescence can be seen on any of the state's atolls, but the most charming "star" waves emerge on the island of Vaadhoo.
Neon brightness is a consequence of phytoplankton stress. The emission of light occurs in the excitement of microscopic organisms, for example, when waves breaking on the shore, beach lighting a variety of sand and fireflies illuminating their scattered blue light.
