It is usually in herds of 5 and 15 individuals, they have a hierarchy of domination, in which there is a male that is always dominant and the rest of the order is determined largely by its size. They mark their territories spreading secretions on trees and rocks of the area, with a gland that they possess in the dorsalñ part of the neck. This species has strong tusks that are used to defend itself from its natural predators. Its importance in the ecosystem consists of being seed dispersers and being the main prey of felines such as pumas and jaguars.
