Pope Saint Leo III, was born in Rome around the year 750 and died in 816, while seated on the papal throne since 795.

While in a procession in 799, members of the previous Pope’s family attacked him, nearly tearing out his tongue and eyes. He miraculously recovered and crowned Charlemagne as Holy Roman Emperor in 800.

Pope Saint Leo III, ora pro nobis!
