Paper Boat

This post had been inspired by my previous one. I have always thought impossible to create something that resembles a paper. I experimented a lot until I got to this point.

Everything is made out of clay. I just want to do the "paper effect." TRANSLATION: Something that looks like a folded paper but actually its all made out of clay. I had been inspired by the colorful paper I used to admire in countless bookstores I visited as a child and, I wanted to capture that here.

We will start by creating the "paper."

Cut then pinch.

Roll the "paper" a bit to even up everything.

Let it stand for a few minutes then start "cutting" it. I used a cutter because I want a proportional cut.

I intentionally did not cut the whole flower because I want to have the same illusion with gift wrapping papers. When you cut, just cut whether the picture gets cut out or not.

I did not actually cut the piece but I wanted to create the illusion of a "crease."

On this part, you really need to cut this piece into 2.

Put this on top of the first "scored" piece.

Cut the other squares.

I did not blend the edges because I want to have the folded paper effect.

I actually made one using a black clay and I got something that looks like this.

I hope you enjoy this. I might stick around making "origami" clay for awhile. This had been an enjoyable experience.
