From Henry Ford to Elon Musk, the evolution of the car was fast and inexorable.
It’s not easy to know how the evolution will growth, but my question is: will the next drivers generations take their driving license?
Let me take a step back.
When Ford invented the car, he supposed that if he asked people what kind of innovative mode of transport they wanted, they would answer looking for “a faster horse”!
But as a great visionary, Ford came out with the car, which revolutionized the transport sector.
Anyway it was not a simple step. It took years, maybe decades, for people to get used to and trust this new technology.
In addition to an economic point of view (few people could afford a car), the technological leap forward was so big that people reacted with shock and distrust.
Nowadays the industry has assimilated this problem and offers controlled technological leaps forward, in a way to not infuse distrust in a buyer, who otherwise would be reluctant to purchase the product.
In the automotive sector the next revolution is coming: the autonomous driving machines.
From years vehicles have gradually been including more and more sensors that improve the driving experience.
From the ABS to the navi. From cruise control to automatic transmission. From automatic emergency braking to assisted parking. Electric motors and wireless charging stations.
Actually our cars are ready to be autonomous!
The question is: are we users ready?
Would you get on a car without a steering wheel? Would you be relaxed during transport? Probably not.
Elon Musk is trying to speed up the process but he is finding many obstacles. Public opinion in the first place.
I don’t know how many years it will take, but surely this step will be taken.
At that point, driving licenses will no longer be needed, and the roar of the combustion engines will be a nostalgic memory of a few enthusiasts.

Da Henry Ford ad Elon Musk, l’evoluzione dell’automobile è stata veloce ed inesorabile. Il settore automotive è, insieme al militare ed il medicale, è l’ambito in cui si innova ed investe maggiormente.
E’ difficile prevedere dove arriveremo ma la domanda che mi pongo è: le prossime generazioni di automobilitsti prenderanno la patente di guida?
Facciamo un passo indietro.
Quando Ford inventò l’automobile era convinto che se avesse chiesto alle persone che tipo di mezzo di trasporto innovativo avrebbero voluto queste avrebbero risposto chiedendo “un cavallo più veloce”!
Al contrario lui, da gran visionario qual era, propose l’automobile, che rivoluzionò il settore dei trasporti.
Non fu però un passo semplice. Ci vollero anni, forse decenni, perché la gente si abituasse e si fidasse di questa nuova tecnologia.
Oltre ad un discorso economico (in pochi potevano permettersi un’auto), il salto tecnologico fu talmente grande che le persone reagivano davanti ad un’automobile con stupore e diffidenza.
Nell’era moderna l’industria ha assimilato questo concetto e propone salti tecnologici controllati in modo da non infondere diffidenza nell’acquirente, che altrimenti sarebbe restio ad acquistare il prodotto.
Nel settore automotive si stanno preparando alle macchine a guida autonoma, la prossima rivoluzione.
Da anni le automobili si stanno via via allestendo sempre più di sensori che migliorano l’esperienza di guida.
Dall’ABS, al navigore. Dal cruise control al cambio automatico. Dalla frenata d’emergenza automatica al parcheggio assistito. I motori elettrici e le stazioni di ricarica wireless.
In realtà le nostre auto sono già pronte per essere autonome!
La domanda è, noi utilizzatori siamo pronti?
Salireste su una macchina senza volante? Sareste tranquilli durante il trasporto? Probabilmente no.
Elon Musk sta provando ad accelerare il processo ma sta trovando molti ostacoli. Opinione pubblica in primis.
Non so quanti anni ci vorranno, ma sicuramente questo passo si farà.
A quel punto le patenti di guida non serviranno più ed i rombi dei motori a scoppio saranno un ricordo nostalgico di pochi appassionati.
