The hyper-tokenisation of STEEM

New-STEEM has lots of tokens. Nowadays, it is possible to earn 5 or 6 different tokens on a single post. Here is a look at the prospects of a few different tribes formed on STEEM, and the investment potential that I see in each. These are just my personal opinions, and not financial advice - do your own research.

STEEMLEO

STEEMLEO has just recently launched - you can find its website here. In it's launch post, the founder outlined this vision for the community:

We’ve created Steemleo for all of the passionate investors across the globe who want to talk about all things investing. Whether you want to build a personal brand around your investing strategies, discuss your philosophies or even make videos about your journey, Steemleo aims to connect passionate investors through a next-generation social media platform that is powered by the Steem Engine smart contract ecosystem and all of the amazing SCOT tools they have created and will continue to create in the future.

At it's current market price around $0.03, my impression is that this token is undervalued. This price gives it a market cap on Steem Engine of $126,758. I feel this price is low, and that the potential of this community is a lot higher. The targeted niche it is looking for will be a popular one in the crypto community, and LEO has the potential to bring new investors in to STEEM. The price is most likely artificially low as a result of people dumping the airdrop tokens.

I strongly believe that the price of LEO will climb once the free token sell-off from recipients of the airdrop eases the current downward pressure on prices.

Rating from me:

  • Short Term - BUY. Sell off should ease soon and accumulators will start buying.
  • Long Term - BUY. Good long term potential, interesting possibilities for this niche.

PALNET

The biggest Tribe on the Block, PALNET is the tokenisation of the Minnow Support Project, one of the oldest and largest STEEM/discord communities with the aim of spreading "Peace, Abundance and Liberty" (hence PAL.) A general purpose community, not so much targeting any specific topic so much as ideals and principles. From their website, we see that...

The Minnow Support Project is a Witness initiative designed to form a community around new Steemit users to help them grow, find support, and as an avenue toward financial success.

The strength of this project lies in the distribution of PAL. Initial launch was by claimdrop, targeted to the broad STEEM userbase that have participated in the MSP discord server. A cap was included, to level the playing field a bit. This process has resulted in a large spread of the token, and it is mainly held in my opinion by active, engaged Steemians. The tokens are prices around $0.138 and the current market cap is just over $2 million. There are also Passive investment options by buying mining tokens, that distribute PALcoins periodically.

This is the most well rounded, and general purpose tribe token with the biggest community already in place.

  • Short Term - Buy. Steady upside since initial claimdrop has ended, so selling pressure should ease.
  • Long Term - Strong Buy. I see the long term prospects as being excellent, and this will be one of the largest and most successful tribes on STEEM.

SPORTSTALK

A personal favourite of mine, Sportstalks primary topic is fairly obvious. Come talk about Sport and earn crypto... What is not to like about that. Having said that, the project had a few teething issues upon launch, and the token economics are a bit out of wack at the moment.
The founder, @patrickulrich had this to say when he launched the project:

I'm happy to announce SportsTalk.social! #sportstalk is the new home for all conversations related to the sporting world. You may be a huge fan of the #NBA and want to talk about USAvsCanada or maybe you prefer to spend your summer months watching #MLB to look for the dingers. Regardless of your favorite pastime you'll be welcomed here to discuss all of your favorite sports moments!

It is such a great broad topic that most people love to get involved in conversations about. I can foresee many uses down the track for the token, I just wish I had the skills to build out those use cases (a tipping competition site, fantasy leagues, even sportsbetting using the SPORT token). Having said that, currently due to the initial issues experiences, the token is overpriced in my opinion. The price is $0.00144 but due to the number of tokens, this equates to a market cap over $143 million. is this project worth 71 times PALNET, or the same as STEEM itself - you be the judge.

  • Short Term - Sell/Accumulate, price is high but token payouts are also high, choice depends on personal goals. At present, I personally am selling half of my post payouts, and staking the other half. Definitely not buying at the moment.
  • Long Term - Accumulate. A good token to earn rather than buy until a big price correction comes along.

Just my opinion, do your own research.

Splintertalk, Weedcash

Both are niche tokens issued for getting involved in conversations related to specific topics. Splintertalk is for all things Steemmonsters (rebranding to Splinterlands). Weedcash, as its name suggests is for chating about Weed.

These are both tokens aimed at their specific communities, and I would not really consider them as investment options unless these are your interests.

Only really for those interested in my opinion.

There are other tribes I have not covered, and no doubt more to come. In addition, there are other tokens available on STEEM, like AFIT, HUNT, DLIKE and others. And with SMT development actually progressing, and finally looking like it will happen sooner rather then later, the future looks to be filled with an abundance of tokens, all on the STEEM blockchain.

How many different tokens do you have? Which are your favourites?

Remember, none of this is financial advice, just my personal thoughts. Do your own research.

Thanks for reading, have a great day.

John.
