      INT. APARTMENT HAMILTON - MORNING

Allie sitting on couch. Boston head in Allie's lap, seems to
be recovered, relaxed. Allie appears disappointed, look of
someone who had a different evening in mind.

Allie sees a teddy bear on the book shelf.

                          ALLIE
                Ah! He's so cute.

Boston sits up. Allie points to the bear.

                          ALLIE
                Him.

Embarrassed, Boston gets up, puts the teddy bear into his
      backpack.

                          BOSTON (CONT'D)
I always carry him with me. He's good
                luck.

                          ALLIE
                What's his name?

      Boston's suddenly awkward again.

                          BOSTON
It doesn't matter? He's just special.

      Boston smiles uncomfortably.

                          ALLIE
                Why special?

      Boston shakes his head.

                          BOSTON
                For someone I once knew...

Boston puts his backpack away. Allie stops pressing.

                          ALLIE (CONT'D)
It's late, or very early. Either way,
                I should be going.

                          BOSTON
                You can stay.

                          ALLIE
                Maybe some other time?

Boston tries again with a pinch of desperation.

                          BOSTON
Look, I'm sorry about last night.

                          ALLIE
                     (Sincerely)
                Don't be.

Allie shifts to get up. She sees worry on Boston's face, he
      sits up.

                          ALLIE (CONT'D)
                Really! It's OK!

Allie stands, gathers her things to leave.

                          BOSTON
                Will I see you again?

Allie gives him a peck on the cheek.

                          ALLIE (CONT'D)
                     (Affectionately)
                That's up to you.

She exits. Boston left standing, head down, and spent. After
a moment, he closes the door.

INT. MOTEL ROOM HAMILTON - MORNING

Curtis wakes up, Charlie's sitting at end of bed half
      dressed, putting shoes on.

                          CURTIS
                Hi.

                          CHARLIE
                Good morning.

                          CURTIS
                     (Concerned)
In a hurry to go someplace... or just
                anyplace?

Curtis throws back covers, naked, sits on edge of bed, puts
      his trunks on.

                          CHARLIE
                Nope. I'm waiting for you.

      After some thought.

                          CURTIS
                So, is this goodbye?

      Charlie finds it difficult.

                          CHARLIE
I can't say for sure. But you never
                know.

                          CURTIS
Not your type? A bad lay?

                          CHARLIE
                     (Sincerely)
                Neither.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
                     (With sadness)
The timing is just really bad kid.

      Curtis needs to know.

                          CURTIS
Does that mean you have someone?

                          CHARLIE
                I don't.

                          CURTIS
                Me neither.

      Curtis shares.

                          CURTIS (CONT'D)
                     (With difficulty)
But there is someone I'm close to. My
best friend... and my age, which is
                unusual for me.

      An awkward smile.

                          CURTIS (CONT'D)
                     (Questioning)
Maybe cause I've known him so long?

      Puzzling at the thought.

                          CURTIS (CONT'D)
I think he might be gay. But afraid
to tell him I am. He's not ready.

      Charlie's saddened, tries to comfort.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
He's a lucky guy. You'll work it out.
                You're a smart kid.

      Curtis looks up smiling.

                          CURTIS
                     (sincerely)
                You're for real, aren't you?

      Charlie smiles, looks puzzled.

                          CURTIS
You know, you'd make a great Dad!

      Charlie's guilt rushes back.

                          CHARLIE
No. I'm no dad. I know nothing about
                it.

      Friendly teasing.

                          CURTIS
                Nothing? Oh, come on?

      Curtis thinks. An epiphany.

                          CURTIS (CONT'D)
What about your dad? You learned
                nothing from him?

                          CHARLIE
                Nothing.
                     (Angry)
He was a drunk. Rarely home.

                          CURTIS
OK. So, when he was home? You guys
                play catch, hockey, anything?

                          CHARLIE
                He wasn't the type.

                          CURTIS
                     (Saddened)
                I'm sorry. I didn't mean to...

Curtis goes silent, Charlie suddenly warms to a memory.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
                     (Sheepishly)
                There's one thing!
                     (Fondly)
                A game we played.

                          CURTIS
                What game?

      Charlie's gets self-conscious.

                          CHARLIE
                Forget it.

      He nervously changes topic.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
                Look, there's a free continental
breakfast waiting for us at the front
desk. Go hop in the shower.

                          CURTIS
No! The game. Tell me more?!

      Charlie sits in armchair.

                          CHARLIE
                It's stupid.

      Suddenly a fond memory.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
But, it was the first time I ever saw
my Dad laugh out loud though.

      Curtis sits silent. Charlie's embarrassed.

                          CHARLIE
He'd just put me on his knee and
bounce me up and down... that's it.
                     (Beat)
                He called it Milkman's Horse.

      Curtis jumps on Charlie's knee.

                          CURTIS
                So, show me?

                          CHARLIE
You're fuckin' crazy, you know that!

Curtis isn't moving. Charlie gets the courage.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
OK. Straddle my leg. Face me.

Curtis moves into place. Charlie hands firmly on Curtis
      waist.

                          CHARLIE
                All right! You ready?

      Curtis is excited.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
A milkman's horse goes jog, jog jog.

On each jog, Charlie bounces Curtis up then down once.
      Charlie waits.

                          CURTIS
                     (Teasing)
                That's it? This you remember?

                          CHARLIE
And a baker's horse goes jog, jog,
                jog.

      Charlie waits. Curtis gets impatient.

                          CURTIS
Oh, come on! You call this a fun?

                          CHARLIE
                But a soldier's horse goes...

      Charlie lets go Curtis' waist.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
                ... giddy-up, giddy-up, giddy- up...

Charlie keeps it up wildly throwing Curtis in the air, both
whooping it up out loud. Then they slip to the floor,
laughing hysterically. The laughing dies, they both get their
      breath.

                          CURTIS
                Oh my God!
                     (Sincerely)
See. Told you! You got the Dad in
                you.

Charlie's smile slowly disappears. Looks thoughtful. Nods
unconsciously. After a moment, Curtis leans in, kisses
Charlie on cheek, a tender moment.

      EXT. STREET - DAY

Charlie walks up to front door Stokers' Furnace. Sign says
"Bar Closed". He steps back, shades his eyes, looks up to
windows on second floor, nothing, steps forward, tries front
door, it opens, he enters slowly.

INT. STOKERS' BACK ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Charlie enters. Jake's moping floor, looks up.

                          CHARLIE
                The door was open so...

                          JAKE
                     (Smiles)
You're the guy from last night. Glen
                Livet neat.

      Charlie smiles.

                          JAKE (CONT'D)
What can I do for you?

                          CHARLIE
Just wanted to look around, speak
                with you.
                     (Beat)
Played here years back when starting
                out.

Jake squints at him. His eyes light up.

                          JAKE
                Damn. You're Charlie Leonard.

      Charlie grins, feeling flattered.

                          CHARLIE
                Surprised anyone recognizes me
                anymore.

      Jake puts out his hand.

                          JAKE
                Jake.

      They shake.

                          JAKE (CONT'D)
                I knew you looked familiar.
                     (Beat)
                Damn nice to meet you.

Jake is in awe. Collects himself.

                          JAKE (CONT'D)
Sorry! I'm just cleaning up a bit
                before we open.

                          CHARLIE
Is it a bad time? Should I come back?

                          JAKE
                     (Excited)
No. Stay. Go ahead. Take a look
around. But I warn you. She's seen
                better days.
                     (Beat)
Hold on. Let me put this stuff away.

Jake exits, Charlie stands centre room taking it in. He's
affected by it all over again.

INT. APARTMENT BEDROOM HAMILTON - DAY

Boston's laying on bed, eyes closed. Sound of front door
opening and closing. A pause. Curtis enters.

                          CURTIS
                You awake?

Boston gets up, sits on edge of bed, head in hands.

                          BOSTON
                Helluva headache.
                     (Strained)
Sorry about the mess in the living
                room. I'll clean it up.

      Curtis exits to living room.

      INT. APARTMENT HAMILTON - CONTINUOUS

Curtis enters, sits. A pause. Boston enters, annoyed, starts
      straightening things up.

                          CURTIS
                You look like shit!

                          BOSTON
                Not surprised.
                     (Beat)
                Allie just left.

Curtis' instantly jealous. Boston exits to kitchen to throw
      stuff into trash.

                          CURTIS
                An over-night chick. A first!

No response. Curtis wants none of it anyway, changes subject.

                          CURTIS (CONT'D)
                And the show?

                          BOSTON (O.S.)
                Good.

      Boston re-enters the living room.

                          BOSTON
                So, where were you?

                          CURTIS
                Hooked up with someone.

      Boston's annoyed.

                          BOSTON
                Was she cuter than me?

      Curtis shrugs nervously.

                          CURTIS
                What's that supposed to mean?

                          BOSTON
                You chose her over me.

      Curtis is confused.

                          CURTIS
                What?

                          BOSTON
Over me and my show idiot!
                     (Beat)
You could have waited til I finished!
                You are my Manager.

      Curtis is deflated.

                          CURTIS
                     (Firmly)
                You had Allie waiting!

                          BOSTON
Yeah. Well, I'll probably never see
                her again!

                          CURTIS
But you said she just left.
                     (Beat)
                She stayed over?

      Boston hesitates, nervous. He lies.

                          BOSTON (CONT'D)
I messed up. A case of whiskey dick!

Boston picks up more garbage. Changes the subject.

                          BOSTON (CONT'D)
I'll finish cleaning up later. I'm
                gonna hop in the shower.

                          CURTIS
So, it's over before it starts?

                          BOSTON
                     (Sarcastically)
                Not exactly. But close.

Boston exits to kitchen again with garbage. Curtis is
      relieved.

                          CURTIS
                So, what's planned for today?
