- Two-time Olympian and world cycling champion Caroline Buchanan, 27, is in hospital following an accident over New Year's weekend outside of Canberra and has suffered serious injuries in a car accident in her native Australia.
- Buchanan has three BMX and five mountain bike world titles, and competed in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. Buchanan had a successful 2017, claiming second place at the BMX world championships in the USA in late July, just weeks before claiming a world title in the mountain bike four cross in Trentino, Italy.
- The Olympian athlete posted an image on Instagram of herself wearing a neck brace, and with blood on her face.
She has been removed from the intensive care unit and posted a gruesome photo of herself on Instagram
cbuchanan68 I wouldn't say 2017 ended quite as planned. Its been a rough couple of days in ICU after a vehicle roll. I just moved to a private room and everything is moving in a positive recovery direction. Injuries are... Broken sternum, broken nose, collapsed lungs. I'll will keep you guys up to date as we go.
