Dear Son

The air outside was cool and crisp
The day you were born.
I could see outside the hospital windows,
Amidst the gray clouds,
Sailboats rocking in the ocean,
As I rocked you against my chest.
Your delicate wrinkled body,
Fit perfectly just like that.
Skin softer than anything I had ever felt.
Your melodious coos calmed me,
Like lavender calms you now.
Time stood still for a moment,
And sped up all at once.
