What goes on in their heads? A poem about bureaucrat psychology.

The Frightened Bureaucrat

Hello again my friends, followers and family! I have not disappeared from this world, but into it; this prosperous year is already showing its hand to be loaded with opportunity! While waiting for fresh coffee to boil on a farm in the Matefique region of Lìbano, I penned a few lines in my agenda, based on a prompt by @sature, who runs #nihilisticrainbow and one of the most unique poetry contests on Steemit.

The prompt was the wet dreams of a bureaucrat. I may have taken the prompt a little to the left, but perhaps without too much of a stretch, guilt and fear can cause one to wet the bed a different way.

The Frightened Bureaucrat

I can only imagine of what a bureaucrat might dream;
a certain type of shenanigan that might make their eyes gleam.
Based on my research into bureaucratical history,
there are some principles, it's practically no mystery
why some of the biggest, most utopian schemes of the past
left little desire for any of those regimes to last.

But telling the story it always seems to be, to a man,
everyone was doing the right thing, following the Lord's plan.
The best they knew how seems terrible now, with extra suff'ring.
I expect they built their guilt over time, while engineering
their fates and those of their countrymen. Modern culture's path today
determined by such men as these, nightmares chase the sleep away.

Avarice filled dreams of money and power, eas'ly twisted;
from the straight and narrow path to the sides we painf'ly listed.
Hard to keep straight when the world's in the palm of your hand, it's true;
It's so hard to sleep with the whole crew right behind you.
God forbid you might nod off and then everything that was done
might come to an end. What was built by guile will all fall undone.

I have a lot more to publish, lot's to tell you all about! We have poetry this year (this being the 9th!), and I am also enjoying the sponsored writing contests by @originalworks, but we are also working on an exciting project, and exciting series of articles, about Bird Land. We keep studying and photographing many of the rare and unique bird species of Colombia, and we want to share more of them with you!

Love and Light to All!
