What advice would you give to someone who is moving to Abuja, Nigeria?

When coming to Abuja, keep in mind that compared to Port Harcourt and a lot of cities down South, food is pretty cheap. Wuse Market, Zuba Market, Kubwa Village Market, Dutse Market et al are some of the places you can get foodstuffs at really affordable prices. Transportation is also strangely cheap. A bus from Kubwa to Berger (in Wuse) costs just 100. That same distance in Port Harcourt would be like 200–300 naira. Taking cabs away from places like the Airport and say, Silverbird, can be a bit pricey though. Expect far better road situations than anywhere else in the country, so don’t bother about traffic. Before now, moving from Kubwa to Wuse would take you 1hr 30 minutes on a good day, but it takes you barely 25 minutes now. Some places have excellent power situations, others have pathetic. By excellent, I mean, 18–23 hours of light daily (I currently live in such place in Kubwa), and by pathetic, I mean, 0–10 hours (used to live here). If you have anything to do in any Ministry, Secretariat or Immigrations (basically, any government office), just go with 500 naira notes and the willingness to beg, else your file isn’t moving anywhere. I know people who take years to process their pension because of the bureacracy in the Civil Service. Abuja is also pretty safe compared to other cities. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be careful though.

All in all, I have more than good reviews for my city.
