Nigerian Defence Academy

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), is currently the only military university in Nigeria. It was established in 1964 to cater for the training needs of the military. The duration of training at the academy for regular students is 5 years after which the graduates can then be incorporated into the Nigerian military.
The initial tutors were mostly officers in the Indian army and the NDA only grew to an all-nigerian Staff in 1978. source

The school, which started training with just 62 cadets in the initial class has frown in size and of 2008, the total cadet class was around 1500.source

The academy has had about 24 commandant. The first commandant was Brigadier M. R Varma an Indian Nationale who was the commandant from 1964 to 1969. He was succeeded by the first Nigerian commandant, Major General David Ejoor who ran the affairs from 1969 till 1971.
The current commandant of the academy is Major General A. Oyebade who assumed office in 2017.

There are many notable alumni of the school. They include the current president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, Oladipo Diya, the former chief of Defence staff, Azubuike Ihejirika, former chief of a staff and Sambo Dasuki, former National Security Adviser among others. source
