Blackmail and Crisis Profiteering

The US is a country divided against itself. Partisans appear confused by the situation. Both sides seem to think that the other side is gaining ground against them. Neither side evinces any awareness that they're essentially the same as their rivals. Both sides together advance the control regime's agenda and neither side interferes with this agenda in any meaningful way.

The machinery of the control regime is nonpartisan. No matter who is in office, the regime uses crisis profiteering to further consolidate its power. It shapes public opinion with censorship and propaganda. And when people don't go along with the program, the regime turns to dirty tricks like blackmail.

Blackmail

Blackmail may be one of the most common ways for the control regime to advance its agenda. The FBI famously used blackmail against civil rights leaders like Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. As increasingly sophisticated surveillance technology has made the secret collection of compromising information easier and easier, blackmail may be much more commonplace today. One state representative recently went on record suggesting that many Republican officials were casting votes in accordance with the wishes of anonymous blackmailers.

This week, 150 names of the late Jeffrey Epstein's associates are set to be publicly released. The names come from Virginia Giuffre, one of the many victims of Epstein's child sex trafficking ring. One of the main purposes of this operation was probably blackmail. According to the New York Post, "Epstein wired his mansion with hidden cameras, secretly recording orgies involving his prominent friends and underage girls. The ultimate purpose: blackmail, according to court papers."

Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee recently spoke out against the blackmail operations influencing government votes:

Remember the high end brothels in DC and Boston that were recently busted? This operation collected surprisingly detailed information about its clients, presumably for the purposes of blackmailing some of them later. Now, Daily Mail is saying that the operation may have been run by a foreign government for espionage purposes. Personally, I kind of doubt that, though I wouldn't be surprised to learn that spies or corporate interests were behind it.

Crisis Profiteering

A recent article in LA Progressive neatly sums up the nature of the crisis profiteering that underpins US government policies:

To understand the foreign-policy scam, think of today’s federal government as a multi-division racket controlled by the highest bidders. The Wall Street division is run out of the Treasury. The Health Industry division is run out of the Department of Health and Human Services. The Big Oil and Coal division is run out of the Departments of Energy and Interior. And the Foreign Policy division is run out of the White House, Pentagon and CIA. Each division uses public power for private gain through insider dealing, greased by corporate campaign contributions and lobbying outlays. Interestingly, the Health Industry division rivals the Foreign Policy division ... America’s health outlays totaled an astounding $4.5 trillion in 2022, or roughly $36,000 per household, by far the highest health costs in the world, while America ranked roughly 40th in the world among nations in life expectancy. A failed health policy translates into very big bucks for the health industry, just as a failed foreign policy translates into mega-revenues of the military-industrial complex.

War is very profitable. So was COVID. And the war on drugs. And all of the other disasters brought about in part by policies designed to increase the control regime's power. Some of these disasters appear to be artificial crises, manufactured to give the regime a pretext for action that would otherwise be too unpopular. Personally, I think COVID may have been a pretext for testing society's willingness to obey bizarre edicts such as stay-at-home orders.
