The prologue
Ezek 14:14, 20 (Ge 6: 8-9; Ps 128: 1-4)
1: 1 There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job. This man was whole and upright; he feared God and fled evil.
2 Seven sons and three daughters had been born to him; 3 had seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred pairs of oxen, five hundred donkeys, and a very large servant. This man was the greatest of all the Orientals.
4 His sons used to go one from the other and in turn organized a party; and they sent for their three sisters to come and eat and drink with them. 5 When the days of the festival ended, Job had them come to purify them; he got up early in the morning and offered a holocaust for each of them, because he said: "It may be that my children have sinned and denied God in their hearts." Job always did so
