A 9-year-old boy from Washington County has spent nearly half of his life helping others at Christmastime.

Colby Jeffrey has collected more than 2,500 toys for children in need in the last three years.

According to a Facebook page for his toy drive, Colby was inspired at age 5 following a school presentation when he heard some children would receive nothing for Christmas. He made it his mission to fill a box truck with toys for kids with help from his family and friends.

This Sunday, Colby will continue his mission with a Toys for Tots drive at the Toys R Us in Washington from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“It's always been about the kids and helping kids have presents on Christmas,” said Kristin Bergman, Colby’s mother. “They deserve to get something from their parents on Christmas. Every child deserves something.”

“Help me help others,” added Colby.

Organizers said the public can donate new, unwrapped toys.
